Our Payment Policy for Unconditional Care

The U.S. healthcare insurance system is changing, and Essential Health Acupuncture is dedicated to making sure you receive the care you need, when you need it. However, many of our patients have asked why we require an upfront payment for services, even when it’s possible that your treatment is partially or fully covered by your insurance and/or only requires a copay on your part.

Did you know that when we call your insurance as a courtesy to verify your benefits, Essential Health Acupuncture is given a disclaimer?

Verification of benefits is not a guarantee of payment.” In other words, we are providing treatment on the good faith that we will be paid the remainder owed by your insurance company and potentially any amount due to us through your coinsurance which you are responsible for.

A Quick Primer on Insurance Payments

Most health insurance plans require monthly premiums plus a high deductible or coinsurance or a combination of both. A deductible is the amount of money you must pay out-of-pocket before your insurance pays anything. Often after you meet your deductible, your insurance company still only pays for a portion of your bill. Through coinsurance, you and your insurer share the remaining cost based on a percentage (eg, patients pay for 50%-90% of a service and insurance pays the rest).

A Reasonable Request

While we understand that this system may be different, it covers the interests of all parties—you, our clinic, and the insurance company:

  • Unconditional Clinic Care: Receiving a portion of payment without having cash in hand for your treatment allows us to treat you as needed while we await the remainder of payment. The upfront collection ensures at least a partial payment for services even when your insurance company is not yet liable.
  • Easier Patient Payment: By paying a portion up front, you’ll only owe what your insurance company doesn’t pay after they’ve processed the claim.
  • Insurance Company Compliance: Your agreement with your insurance company is a legally binding contract. By collecting your part of the financial obligation, we are merely doing our part to help you fulfill your part of the contract.

Above all, our first priority is your health. We believe wellness is non-negotiable and will continue to work diligently with your insurance company on your behalf. If you have any questions regarding your personal insurance coverage, please contact us at the clinic.
